PPM Releases Health 2.0 Service to Help Consumers Understand and Track their Own Health
Predictive Physiology and Medicine (PPM) announced the launch of its new Health 2.0 Information System. The web-based Viveda system helps individuals interpret, store, and compare llab test results over time, providing a way to monitor personal health. In today’s healthcare environment of escalating costs and increased preventable chronic disease, Viveda is a valuable tool for educating patients and promoting wellness. With this new service, PPM joins the ranks of other Indiana organizations pushing the state ahead of the curve in Healthcare IT.
Viveda has wide application across healthcare for individuals, employers, laboratories, physicians and hospital systems. Laboratory testing is the primary method used to assess health, diagnose illness, and determine treatments. Each year, more than 100 billion lab tests are performed in the US. But individuals and providers continually grapple with communicating and understanding those lab test results. Viveda streamlines the process and makes results easy-tounderstand. It also stores results long-term, using colorful bar graphs to trend results and monitor changes.
As a companion to the Viveda web-based system, PPM is also developing an iPhone application to be released in the coming weeks. PPM’s CEO Brian Kleber said, “With the completion of our iPhone app individuals will have a portable tool for managing of all their lab test results. Whether that test was performed as part of a work screening event or ordered by a physician in a clinical setting.” He continued, “Viveda has the potential to forever change the way that lab test results, and health care for that matter, are delivered to patients.”
Today’s launch event was held at Indiana University’s Emerging Technology Center, an incubator for life sciences, biotechnology and bioinformatics companies in Indiana. PPM is a spin-out of Indiana University and received early funding from the university’s METACYte Fund. Representatives from across the healthcare spectrum attended today’s event, including Allison Werne a RN and health coach with Community Physicians of Indiana. Werne who plans to use Viveda with her patients over the next few months said, “Many of my patients are struggling with chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease, so I’m looking for ways to help them manage their health.” She went on to say, “I’m excited to have a health education tool like Viveda. It provides the understanding patients need to take control of their own health.”
